Doug McConnell made the world a better place; Marin County and beyond benefitted from his big heart and deep commitment to nature. For years, it felt like he was the consummate emcee for all environmental and animal-focused events in the county, and he received many Emmys and broadcast awards as the host of Bay Area Backroads.
I first met Doug in 2007 at the Marin City Starbucks and I couldn’t believe the guy on TV with the best job in the world was right in front of me. When I introduced myself and asked if I could interview him for our then-new magazine, he made me feel like I was doing him a favor. I was fortunate to interview him again when we launched Local Getaways (read below). Thank you Doug for always showing us that the best stories come from the most unexpected people and places. You will be missed.
